Sophie-Véronique CAUCHEFER-CHOPLIN was born in Nogent-le-Rotrou, France. She grew up in a musician family where she received piano instruction as a small child. After completing piano, organ (Gérard Letellier) and harmony courses at the Ecole Nationale de Musique of Le Mans, she entered the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique of Paris where she studied the organ with Rolande Falcinelli. She was awarded the first prizes in organ, improvisation, harmony, fugue and counterpoint (in the classes of Jean Lemaire, Michel Merlet and Jean-Claude Henry). Her academic success was rewarded in 1980 with a prize from the French Ministry of Culture.
Sophie-Véronique CAUCHEFER-CHOPLIN was named titular of the Grand Orgue of Saint Jean-Baptiste de la Salle in Paris in 1983. In 1985, she added the position of deputy titular of the Grand Orgue of Saint Sulpice Paris with Daniel Roth. In 1990 after an advanced teaching by Loïc Mallié, she became the first woman to win the second prize in improvisation at the Chartres International Organ Improvisation Competition. In 2023, she was named co-titular of the Grand Orgue of Saint Sulpice with Karol Mossakowski.
Sophie-Véronique has an extensive international career, having given recitals worldwide in more than 30 countries : she regularly plays in the USA. Since 1998, she has given master classes of improvisation (Dallas, Chicago, New-York, Washington, Minneapolis, Tokyo, Hong-Kong, Singapore, Melbourne, Sydney, etc. and in many French places) and she has lead organ improvisation course (Biarritz, London). From September 2008, she will be Organ Professor at the Royal College of Music of London. She is regularly invited as a judge in national and international organ competitions (AGO National Convention - Chicago 2006, Biarritz 2007, Angers 2008, Chartres International Competition 2008, Karl Nielsen Odense Competition 2011, AGO National Convention – Nashville 2012, Longwood Gardens 2013). She was Guest Organist at the Yale University of New Haven (Nov 2010).
She is considered by her peers to be one of the best improvisers of her generation. Her compact discs of Bach, Mendelssohn, Brahms, Franck, Rheinberger, Messiaen, Grunenwald, Roth along with her recorded improvisations have garnered high praise. Her last recording (Mendelssohn, Bédard) received a “5 diapasons” award in June 2008.

Sophie-Véronique CAUCHEFER-CHOPLIN wuchs in einer Musikerfamilie auf, in der sie bereits sehr früh Klavierunterricht bekam. Nach ihren Musikstudien (Klavier, Orgel und Harmonielehre) an der Ecole Nationale de Musique in Le Mans, für die sie mit dem Preis des Kultusministers 1980 ausgezeichnet wurde, absolvierte sie am Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris die Orgelklasse von Rolande Falcinelli, die sie mit einem Ersten Preis für Literaturspiel und einem Ersten Preis für Improvisation abschloss. Außerdem errang sie dort die Preise für Harmonielehre, Fuge und Kontrapunkt (in den Klassen von Jean Lemaire, Michel Merlet und Jean-Claude Henry). 1983 wurde sie zur Titularorganistin an Saint Jean-Baptiste de la Salle in Paris ernannt, seit 1985 ist sie außerdem neben Daniel Roth zweite Titularorganistin an Saint Sulpice in Paris. 1990 setzt sie das Studium der Orgelimprovisation bei Loïc Mallié fort und erwirbt den Zweiten Preis für Improvisation (als erste weibliche Preisträgerin) beim Internationalen Orgelwettbewerb von Chartres.
Sophie-Véronique CAUCHEFER-CHOPLIN gibt zahlreiche Konzerte (solo, Orgel plus und Orgel mit Orchester) in Europa, USA, Kanada, Russland und Japan. Als eine der besten Improvisatorinnen ihrer Generation tritt sie zudem im Rahmen von Konzerten “Orgel und Rezitant” neben Michael Lonsdale, Marcel Maréchal, Jean-Michel Dhermay, Brigitte Fossey u.a. auf. Aufgrund ihrer Improvisationsbegabung wird sie regelmäßig zu Meisterkursen in Frankreich und im Ausland eingeladen (London, Biarritz usw.) Außerdem ist sie häufig Mitglied der Jurys von nationalen und internationalen Wettbewerben.
Ihre CD-Einspielungen mit Werken von Bach bis zu zeitgenössischen Komponisten (Grünenwald, Roth usw.) sowie Improvisationen erhielten zahlreiche lobende Kritiken in der Fachpresse.

Sophie-Véronique CAUCHEFER-CHOPLIN è nata in una famiglia di musicisti che le ha insegnato il pianoforte fin da giovane. Dopo gli studi musicali (pianoforte, organo ed armonia) alla Ecole National de Musique du Mans, è stata insignita del premio del Ministero della Cultura nel 1980.

Nominata titolare del Grand’organo della Chiesa di San Giovanni Battista de La Salle a Parigi nel 1983, ricopre l’incarico di organista aggiunto con Daniel Roth, fin dal 1985, al Grand’Organo della Chiesa di San Sulpizio a Parigi. Nel 1990 ha conseguito, prima donna nella storia del concorso, il secondo premio d’improvvisazione al Concorso internazionale d’Organo di Chartes.
Concertista affermata non soltanto in Francia ma anche all’Estero, dove ha tenuto recital organistici in Europa, Stati Uniti, Canada, Russia e Giappone. Tiene master class d’improvvisazione ed è spesso giudice nei concorsi organistici sia nazionali, sia internazionali. Ha inciso numerosi compact disc su autori che partono da Bach fino ai giorni nostri.
